Not only was Parnell the first suburb of Auckland, but it has also maintained its grace and personality over decades and is surrounded by some of our city’s best attractions including the Parnell Baths and iconic Auckland Museum and the Domain.

It boasts a range of places to eat, from cafes to fine dining and arguably one of the most diverse cultural foodie offerings in a single suburb.

The demand for high-end urban living on the city fringe, and especially in Parnell, has led to the opportunity of these exclusive apartments on the hill, offering amazing views over the water, or the city and Domain, with the accessibility and convenience of Parnell Rd on your doorstep.

One of the curious things about Parnell is how fiercely loyal the local residents are, many of whom have been here for successive generations. It’s not uncommon to find local residents with young families, who grew up in Parnell, attended Parnell District School, maybe went overseas for a while, then relocated back in Parnell to raise a family. Equally, people also transition to ‘empty nesters’ in Parnell, not wanting to leave the community they have enjoyed.

Well known for the concentration of art galleries and high-end independent jewellery stores, most of the retail in Parnell is owner- run, and down some of the cobbled alleyways, you will find quirky shops that offer a certain something you just can’t find anywhere else in Auckland.

Home décor and design is some of the best in Auckland, with superior design stores, fabric and home improvement options scattered all over the precinct for those with a discerning taste to discover.

Parnell boasts a range of places to eat, from cafes to fine dining and arguably one of the most diverse cultural foodie offerings in a single suburb. From an award-winning degustation meal to celebrate a life milestone there is also Thai, Indian, Italian, Japanese, Asian Fusion, French, Greek, Persian and many more internationally-inspired hospitality offerings.

While its picturesque restored villas and sympathetic development provide hours of rewarding wandering and the village area on Parnell Road is ‘quintessentially Parnell’ there are many hidden gems in Parnell that need exploring.

If you love walking there are many secret spots and small parks to explore tucked in between residential premises – (some of them only known to dog lovers), and you can literally walk for between 5-7kms if you are keen to route between the Domain and Hobson Bay.

One of the lesser-known areas of Parnell that have recently developed is known as the warehouse district at the bottom of St Georges Bay Road. Originally wool stores on the waterfront, many of the semi-industrial buildings and sheds have been converted and the area around Faraday Street now populated with cafes and eateries. Parnell has always attracted creatives, ad agencies and architects and more recently incubators, shared spaces and deep tech. Here lie the original premises of Rocket Lab and several other bio-medical start-ups which are fascinating to learn about.

The demand for high-end urban living on the city fringe, and especially in Parnell, has led many developers to take the opportunity of developing exclusive apartments on either crest of the hill, offering amazing views over the water, or the city and Domain, with the accessibility and convenience of Parnell Rd on your doorstep.

The Education

Experience
local learning.

In keeping with the overall standard of Parnell, there is a selection of excellent schools and childcare facilities for parents to choose from.
